FAQ

Questions teachers ask us

Is it really free?

There's no monthly fee for up to 15 active students, forever, and no credit card needed to start. You get the core features: your website, booking with upfront card payment, automatic confirmations, receipts and calendar invites, and the parent portal.

On the Free plan, Tooition takes a 2% fee on each online payment you receive, on top of Stripe's processing fee. If your studio grows past 15 students, you can move to a paid plan with a lower fee. You'll never be moved to a paid plan without choosing to upgrade.

Do I need any tech skills?

No. If you can fill in a form and post on Facebook, you can set up Tooition. You pick a template, type in your lessons and prices, tap the hours you teach, and share your link. There's no code, no plugins, and nothing to install.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Every studio gets a free link like yourstudio.tooition.com. On paid plans you can connect a domain you own, like www.yourstudio.com, and we'll walk you through it step by step.

How do payments work?

Payments run through Stripe, a payment company used by millions of businesses. You connect your own Stripe account (or create one in a few minutes), and money from families goes to your Stripe account and on to your bank. Tooition never holds your money.

Each online payment has two fees: Stripe's standard card processing fee, and a Tooition fee that depends on your plan. It's 2% on Free, 1% on Starter, 0.5% on Growth, 0.25% on Pro and 0% on School. Both are deducted from the payment automatically. If you refund a payment, we return our fee.

Is my students' data safe?

Your students are your students. Tooition isn't a marketplace: we don't list your students, show them other teachers, or sell anyone's data. Ever.

For younger students, parents create and manage the account, so the grown-ups stay in control of bookings, payments and contact details.

Can I sell courses, sheet music or sample packs?

Not yet. A shop for digital downloads, lesson packages and online courses is coming soon. Today, Tooition handles booking and upfront payment for your lessons. Monthly tuition autopay, makeup credits and studio policies are also on the way.

How fast can I get set up?

Setup is built to be quick: create your account, pick a template, add your lessons and prices, tap the hours you teach, and connect Stripe. There's nothing to install and no code.

Is there a mobile app?

Families use the parent portal on their phone: they see lessons and homework, and students record practice and send it to you. Native iPhone and Android apps for teachers and families are coming soon.

Can I use Tooition outside the US?

Yes. Teachers in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Singapore and Japan can sign up. On your site, families can see your prices in their own currency and switch currencies. They're always charged in your currency, and their bank handles any conversion.
